If you are teaching only your own children, you do not need a license. Home schooling only applies to parents who teach their own children in their own home. Most states have a resource of curriculum for parents doing this that most people can follow, even without a college education. If you plan to teach other children you are becoming a private school, then other licensing becomes involved which varies from state to state. WIthout proper licensing, you could be shut down. These licenses are building and business licenses that guarantee insurance and safety regulations, but does not necessarily include educational licenses. You would need those if you want you school to be accredited by the state department of education.

I'm not sure if you're talking about being a home school facilitator or simply teach your kids at home. If you wish to become a facilitator, you must have your teaching degree. On the other hand, if you want to teach your kids at home, you don't need a teaching degree.

Home schooling requires much more research to find your own resources, however, the kids get more of a one-to-one education and they will soar academically. There are those that feel that home schoolers suffer socially, This is not so. Kids will meet other home school kids or can participate in gym classes at the nearest school. Simply consult the principal and they will most likely be willing to work with you. Good luck.
