A deposition would be voluntary unless you are subpoenaed to give on by a judge. If you have information and they know you have they can subpoena you to testify and you will have no choice but to comply.

If you have been given a subpoena that is issued by the Court, then yes you have to go to the deposition or you could be held in contempt of Court if the attorney requesting the deposition pursues it.

If you have knowledge of the event and they are aware of it you will have to give a deposition.
Done it and you are asked questions in different ways. What I did and have always done is to tell the truth and stick to it. By refusing then they will get a court order and you'll have to do it anyway so you have no real choices.

You don't legally have to give a deposition unless it is court ordered. Once its court ordered and you don't go to the deposition, they can issue a warrent for your arrest.

you are required to appear and give a deposition, however you can always say I claim the 5th amendment , and refuse on the grounds that any thing I say may be held against me in a court of law,the fifth amendment says you are not required to say any thing that may incriminate your self,
