It is a really good book, but very difficult to read. I have actually put it down and walked away several times because it's very difficult to read the justifications of a pedophile. If you think you can handle reading a grown man describe how a 12 year old girl has seduced him...then go for it. Stylistically, it's beautiful. Nbyakov is a wonderful writer, but his subject matter is usually contraversial, as is the case with Lolita.

I had to read Lolita at school, many years ago, and it was a real eye-opener. It deals with some really heavy material, and is basically asking if the guy was a pedophile and in the wrong, or was the girl too advanced for her years and gave the guy no chance....but it is also a love story, but not one you are ever likely to find the "norm". very controversial, even all these years on.
Personal preference is that it is a good book, if disturbing at times. If you think you can handle the subject matter then i would recommend it as a good read.

I was barely 18 when I read it, so it was easier to get beyond the thought of an adult having such strong feelings for a adolescent girl. I would not recommend it for anyone younger than 17 or 18, as it is sexually excplicit and deals with sexual abuse and promiscuity.
The book itself is wel-written and a fascinating story. The subject matter is highly controversial, which is possibly why the book continues to have good sales.

I just read Lolita! It is an extremely interesting book because you find yourself in the mind of and sympathizing with someone who is in a relationship with a child. There is randomly placed morbid/off hand humor, which I loved.

It is an awesome work. How people ever interpret the Lolita's character as a slut boggles my mind. Sick.
