Well, that is kind of a relative question, depends on what standard of living you are accustomed to (or desire), whether it is just you, or a family, and what part of Vancouver you want to live and work in.

If you want to live in the downtown west side, where all the highrise apartment buildings and clubs and cool shopping is, then you are looking at $1,500 just for housing, plus all your other expenses, I would say have a monthly income of $3,000-3,500.

Now, if you just want a decent place to live in a nice area, you can get something for $500-700.

Also, you will have to consider transportation .... figure $60-120 a month for public transportation if you work outside walking distance of your home; and if you own a car, around $140 a month for ins/liscensing (give or take), plus other vehicle expenses.

A person/couple can live semi-decently on $2,000 a month take home. If you are frugal, single, no pets, no car, you could make it on $1,200-1,500, though quality of life might be less than desirable.
