Washing machines doesn't need any vent pipes
For the top hatch opening types
It's activated by a solenoid and water flows by gravity itself
The rubber discharge hose is laid flat on ground
As for the front window types
It's pumped out by an electrical pump
The discharge hose is hung like a "S"
It is kept higher than the drum
It cancels out gravity flow for the next fill
The problem you are facing is at the discharge plumbing pipe
Check for clogging before adding vent pipes
It sure works more efficient with vent pipes for any kind of piping

Since you have a y connection it sounds like it already has a vent pipe. If so, then it is probably clogged not allowing it to vent air assisting it to drain. Check for leaves and other debree in pipe. In most situations a drain pipe comes off the main branch to the washer with a p-trap in-line. If that was the case, then the open pipe is also your vent.

YES you do need a vent pipe. this lets the water in the line drain correctly. You need to have an 1 1/2" line for the vent that goes through the roof. If you have ever taken a 2 liter bottle with water in it and turn it upside down the water just gurrgles out slowly but put a small hole in the top of it and it will come out very quickly. The drain has the same effect. This will slove the problem.

A vent pipe is not only to vent out air of gas it is to let air into your plumbing pipe as the water runs in. There should be a vent somewhere in your system, nowever it could be in a bad spot for your washer. If you flush a toilet and water is emptied by your washer at the same time it could back up if it can't get air fast enough. The 45 also makes it harder for the water to quickly take that corner and get enough air

I thought it was code all drains must be vented? Granted their may be only one or two vent pipes through the roof as several vents may be connected.
