they gave me a file number and a number to call and said it was a trip for two and that if i didn't want it i could sell it or give it away..do you think this is a scam? do you think i should call to see what they say? i don't want to get scammed but i also don't want to miss the opportunity if it happened to be real..what do you think

There should have been a lot of fine print on the entry form or where you entered the contest that would have given you more information.

Most of these contests are legitimate. Most are usually connected with time-share operations at the locations to where the trip is going. You will probably be required to set through a sales pitch for their properties. When you call, you may be asked to provide a credit card number as proof of your age and/or to cover handling charges.

It's probably not a scam but consider whether or not you really want to go to the location and whether you're willing to put up with some occasionally high-pressure sales techniques. If you go, agree to nothing you don't want and read everything that you may be asked to sign. If you don't understand something, ask lots of questions until you feel comfortable with the situation.
