Evolution is only a theory based on scientific evidence collected in the here and now which makes an assumption that all things ocurred at the same rate as they do now.
The theory of evolution, got it?
Religion is theology. GEE, they even look a lot alike.
If you contend that the theory of evolution does not make assumptions you have not been paying attention in class.
Nobody recorded events from 50,000 years ago so everything concerning time before that is ASSUMPTION.
Some scientists ASSUME that meteorites wiped out the dinosaurs by creating a massive dust cloud that enveloped the earth.
Others ASSUME that something in the environement caused so few males to be born that they just faded away.
Christians ASSUME the bible to be true by faith in God.
Scientists ASSUME their conclusions to be true by faith in science.
Only recently have astrologers begun to embrace the possibility that changes in our solar system may have occurred much faster than was first believed.
Why are people so damned stubborn and inflexible when it comes to discussing evolution and religion?

First of all let me say that I'm a true supporter of evolution so what I'm going to say is not what I believe.
Second, believing in a superior being has its own advantages. Think about it: if you truly believer that you are here because some superior power wants you to be here and you are who you are because that is what that superior power wants you to be; then you don't have to take responsibility for anything because your actions and thoughts and plans are all pre-set by the superior power and you have no power to change anything.
The other thing is that with this belief comes hope: you can always hope that there is something better waiting for you as long as you do the things that the superior power wants you to do, even though there is no real proof of that promised happiness and all we have is the promises in our Holy Books (Bible, Koran,...).And believe it or not, future is always more important than the past. So as long as we know what to expect in future (after death) then who cares what has happened in the past? Lets just play it safe and believe in what the Holy Book says!
Evolution tells us what has (might have) happened in the past but so far it has no way of telling us what will happen in the future. All it is telling us about the future is speculation.
Religion tells us to what will happen in the future (even though there is no solid proof for this either).
But my question is why we can't find a common ground here? Can't we say that the 1st homo-sapience humans that evolved from earlier species were Adam and Eve? Can you really imagine that one day thousands of years ago all of the sudden Adam and Eve appeared on the earth and started a family?

Because the American public has an abysmal understanding of science. And the fundamentalist "Christians" love to compound the ignorance by stating that evolution is "only a theory" and therefore not validated. That is a complete misuse (or misunderstanding - I'll be generous) of how science uses the term "theory".
It boggles my mind how there does not seem to be any argument about evolution as it relates to drug resistant bacteria and herbicide resistant weeds. It's the same process that applies to all living things. It's just that it takes many generations to see any trends. A human generation is considered to be 25 years, while a generation for bacteria can be only a few hours. By the way, the entire filed of animal husbandry, breeding horses, cattle, dogs, etc. to have desirable traits, is nothing but evolution with humans taking the role of "natural selection".

It is everything to do with belief. Only Fundamentalist Christians/Muslims etc. believe that Evolution is false, because they believe in a literal Bible/Quran. In order for Genesis to be literally true, evolution has to be false.
If you do not believe that the entire Bible is literally true, then there is no conflict. Just look at the number of Christians that believe in Evolution.
Just check the statitsics of the UK. The most recent census (which admittedly, is 5 years old) lists the population of Christians as being 70%. However, a much larger population here believes in evolution than in the US.
The only thing preventing people from believing in evolution as true, is proper research, the fact that much of the research literature requires a subscription to access it or payment, and belief. Proper research will show that evolution is true.

It is very hard to tell a person that their values and beliefs are wrong. For years people thought the world was flat and the center of the universe. Galileo was imprisoned for the later of the two.
It is natural to want to believe everything you think is right and all others are wrong; no matter how much evidence you can though at a person you can never force them to change their mind.
Some people learn these things from their parents or other figures of power (clergy, etc) that if they thought they were wrong on one thing, then they could be wrong on anything else. It is and unsettling thought that everything you think could be wrong
This is also why there isn't just one religion, no one wants to believe they're wrong. We can't all be right, hell I may even be wrong about saying that.
It simply comes down to people being more stubborn then mules.

I am 14 and am confused about the subject. I am a Christian and belive in God all the way, but I see mutations all around us, so how is there not evolution? I really need to talk to someone because I am a freshman taking biology (and love science to death, yet I love God more). Are you an Atheist because if you are I would like to hear about your opinion on things.

Because they always seem to forget about fossil of early man and the giant dinosaur bones that paleontologists dig up year and year, decade after decade, century after century. Maybe they should tie a string around their finger so they can remember that tiny little fact. Fossils=evidence.
Oh, and to the person above me. Authorities of your church does not, I repeat, does NOT hold RECOGINIZED PhDs in any science; so that means the PhD issued by your church in Rome does not count. Oh, and I'm glad that your "superior" knowledge can't even get you to write a grammatically correct paragraph.

I think it's because so many people believe in a superior being, that they will not even look at the possibility.
Or as someone once said, "Ignorance is bliss."

evolution has ZERO evidence. the reason i know is that i researched it and some of the top scientists have admitted that they havent really linked it all together, its all say so. so if u want to just believe say so and have "faith" in what they say then that is your choice. however
there is a God and there is evidence. u just have to look for it ,if u put in just as much time and effort into looking for God that u do looking in them science books then u will come to realize that all them science books are just a joke and u will think u were crazy to even believe such nonsense. tell me how many science books has fulfilled prophesies from over 2000 yrs ago about what is happening today? none is the answer.
oh yeah and all the fossils that they have of early man was proved nothing more than a man with arthritis, and as far as dinosaurs, bible mentions those duhhh

They are not. Most people have been taught evolution through the school systems and nature programs. Most reject it because they have never seen it happen.
