Since I am a virgin if they could take blood and test it instead of doing a pap smear? I've heard that if you are a virgin it will mess up the hymen and all that stuff because they have to spread u apart to swab the areas needed.

The only reason to get a pap smear is to screen for cervical cancer. There is no blood test that can be done instead.

Cervical cancer is now thought to be caused solely by HPV, a sexually transmitted disease. Thus, to get a pap smear in a virgin is considered by most physicians to be completely unnecessary.

The current recommendations by most medical organizations is to begin screening for cervical cancer (a pap smear) once a woman is sexually active or age 18, whichever comes first.

Although, many say you can safely wait until 3 years after age of first sexual intercourse or until age 21 years old in a virgin.

Even in a virgin, most medical organizations and doctors will encourage you strongly to get a pap smear by the age of 21. Before this, some may encourage you to start with pap smears at age 18.

But really, since HPV is transmitted sexually, it is likely a complete waste of time. Next time you see a doctor for a check-up, discuss this issue with the doctor...and tell him or her that you do not want a pap smear. You can refuse it, you know.

The "problem" behind the scenes is that a physician takes a big risk in not doing a pap smear. Most people are sexually active, even if they say otherwise...and if they get cervical cancer, they could sue the physician. So most physicians will strongly encourage you to get the pap smear...

Sometimes it just sucks to be a doctor in the litigious U.S....and the patient care sucks as a result, too...

But I am digressing...

In any event, I hope this helped you some.

Sorry--no other way to test it. They're actually getting a small tissue sample from your cervix so it can't be replaced with a blood test.

I know it's scary. But don't worry. I was a virgin (and still am at 27) when I had my first pelvic exam. Many times your hymen is broken years before your pelvic exam. It's just a small, fragile piece of skin that can break during anything you do that's active, sports, dance, etc. If you've ever worn a Tampon, your hymen's probably not intact still.

Here are a few tips that I've found helpful with making pelvic exams more comfortable.

First, find a doctor that you trust.
Second, request the pediatric sized spreader. (That means the smallest size possible
Third, request a plastic spreader, not metal (much more comfortable!)
Fourth, relax as much as possible.

My doctors have reccommended to get tested when you become sexually active or when you turn 21, whichever comes first.

EDIT: Yes, you should get a PAP smear. I think my first one was at 22. 24 is an appropriate age to get checked. Don't worry about it. You'll be fine!

A pap smear is a swab of the cervix, it is a cervical cancer screening tool. Cells from the cervix are collected and tested for any abnormalities, a blood sample could not be used for this.
Typically, pap smears are done once a woman is age 21 or she has been sexually active for 3 years or more, which ever comes first. So, if you are not sexually active your health care provider may not feel a pap smear is ncessary at this time. Keep in mind that a pap smear is one part of a pelvic exam and your provider may still want to do a pelvic and breast exam for you, but defer your pap smear. Pelvic exams can be done on women that have never had intercourse successfully and without problem. Most women's hymens have been broken prior to begining sexual activity. Pelvic exams and pap smears are not painful, the exam goes very quickly and is at most akward and a little uncomfortable.

Have the pap smear and I promise, you'll still be a virgin afterwards. You're not having sex, you're having a routine checkup.

I'm not going to lie, its a little awkard and uncomfortable, but nothing to be afraid of. You should be more afraid of not getting it done.

I had a pap smear done at 19 (when I was still a virgin) and abnormal cell growths were detected. Luckily for me, it turned out to be nothing, but what if it wasn't. I could be very sick right now, or worse, and I wouldn't be able to sit here and write to you :-)

Have the test!!!!!

OK...let's think about this logically....GOOD HEALTH...hymen? Hummmmm...not much of a choice to me....but to answer your question you have to have a pap smear because they swab the inside of your vigina to test the excretions for diseases that blood tests won't pick up on.....and to tell you the truth....if you have ever fallen really hard, rode horses, just been remotely active in your life....you probably don't have your hymen anymore anyway, you can tear it really easily because the membrane is to thin. GO GET YOUR PAP SWEETIE

women people elect to get a pap try each and every 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. they're meant to initiate even as they hit puberty yet maximum initiate about 16-18. It should not be so terrible once she's in there. The dr will initiate through urgent on her abdomen to sense for any irregularities. No discomfort in any respect with that. as far because the incredibly try, the dr inserts a speculum soaking wet in KY jelly and cranks her vagina open slightly to view the interior. there is not any discomfort, basically stress. then they use a cotton swab to swab her cervix. The dr is reassuring and could communicate her through each and every thing she is doing to her and what to assume. they gained't stick some thing in her till her body is comfortable. And better than probable she'll have relaxing %. to look at on the ceiling...

if you are truly a virgin and very young I think you don't need a pap smear. unless you are thinking in taking birth control some doctors may want you to have it done.

a pap smear is an exam done to your uterus and yes they swap all those areas.. i have never heard of blood text replacing a pap smear text.

good luck
