Generally you start first foods when they are 4 months and then 2nd foods when they are 6 to 8 months and then 3rd foods when they are 8 months and up. There are some web sites that might have that information like Gerber. You could also call your babies doctor and ask them. I'm sure they would know exactly what is best for your baby.

My kids were both developmentally ready for cereal at 4 months, plus they had reflux, so our pediatrician gave us the OK. So we did all the single, stage 1 foods, and as soon as we were done with those, we moved on to stage 2. But we also started things like Cheerios at 6 months. And then we discovered that neither kid would eat stage 3, and they were already able to feed themselves and interested in what we were eating, so we just started them eating regular table foods right away. We had to cook a little differently to avoid the no-nos, but it worked out fine. And we had no baby food in the house after they were 9 months or so.

Please do not feed your baby until at least 6 months old!! Their digestive system that is mature enough to handle solids. American and Canadian Pediatric Society recommend that you only feed them breastmilk and/or formula until then. You are putting them at higher risk of allergies when you start them on food too early.
And you don’t need to give them water or juice or anything else until they are one years old. And they recommend giving WATER before Juice and juice should be watered down.

Remember you have to feed this kid for the rest of your life…..so what’s the rush?

Here’s what to feed your child:

• Rooting reflex helps your baby turn toward a nipple to find nourishment
What to feed
• Breast milk or formula ONLY •
Your baby's digestive tract is still developing, which is why solid food is off limits for now.

From 4-6 months------------
Signs of readiness for solid food
Your baby probably won't do all these things — they're just clues to watch for.
• Can hold head up
• Sits well in highchair
• Makes chewing motions
• Shows significant weight gain (birth weight has doubled)
• Shows interest in food
• Can close mouth around a spoon
• Can move food from front to back of mouth
• Can move tongue back and forth, but is losing tendency to push food out with tongue
• Seems hungry after 8 to 10 feedings of breast milk or 40 oz. of formula in a day
• Is teething
What to feed
• Breast milk or formula, PLUS
• Semi-liquid iron-fortified rice cereal, THEN
• Other grain cereals like oats or barley

And foods to avoid for your baby

interior the US it is rice cereal. it is quite like synthetic/powdered mashed potatoes. you mustn't evaluate feeding any solids - including cereals - till your toddler is 6 months previous. even though it is not required. the subsequent 6 months are in basic terms prepare. Your toddler can nurse completely till 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, yet must be exceedingly lots onto solids with the help of that factor. do no longer tension over it from 6-3 hundred and sixty 5 days - it is in basic terms prepare time then. fairly some it has to do with them exhibiting signs and warning signs that they are waiting - ie able to sit down on their own, drawn on your food, gag reflex is reducing, and so on. i did no longer decide for to feed the jar meals - they're truly handy, yet appeared style of gross to me. i began with mashed ripe bananas, avocado, and so on.

I skipped the whole mushy baby food phase with my daughter. Mostly because she absolutely refused and still refuses to take anything on a spoon. I went directly to finger foods. This article really helped me and it makes sence. I hope this helps. Remember also that food before a year is for practice and not nutrition. They get all their nutrition from breastmilk or formula.

With my 3 children I took the cue from them. All 3 of them hated how thin the first foods were. We went to 2nd foods and they were satisfied with that. All 3 of my kids skipped the #3 foods altogether. I would say- just watch your baby and take your cues from him/her. They will let you know if they don't like it.
