With your new computer plugged in, a few usual things to check for ( i assume you are using ethernet port connection)
1) make sure your ethernet port is enabled. To do this, go to control panel --> system-->hardware-->device manager. Look under Network Adapter and press the + sign beside it to expand the list. Make sure you don't have any yellow question/exclamation mark. If you do, you'll need to get the drivers for your ethernet card.
2) Start-->Run and type cmd.
Type IPCONFIG and then see if you get an IP Address. If you don't it means something is still wrong. Type ipconfig/release and then ipconfig/renew
3) Go to Control Panel-->Networks ... see that your Local Area Network (or whatever your internet connection is named) and make sure the status is connected. (not bridged or any other).
4) If everything fails, call Comcast

It may not recognize the modem since most comcast modems require your computer have the correct driver installed. You could download the driver onto your other computer and, assuming you can burn data to CD or both computers have floppy drives, install the correct driver onto the computer that does not work.

if you want to use the new comp on the same single line or just replace the old all together, on your old comp,, you will have to hook it back up,,,you need to go to run in your start menu, type in ipconfig,, when it comes up you want to release all ip address,, it should give you the option to type in to do so,, then after doing that , you should rehook you current new comp and it should pick it up,, if it doesnt go to run and type ipconfig , then select option to open ip address, if anyother questions or concerns , contact comcast internet customer support,,,,

You need a router for more than one computer, as it assigns the different IP addresses you need so the right info feeds back to the correct computer.

If your computer is not working properly when it is switched on, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yk5zpr
