A catwalk is basically a walk done by models to model the design of clothing they're wearing. It's usually perfomed on a stage there is a walkway for the models to do the catwalk.

It is any kind of a suspended or elevated walkway. Factories often have them above the plant floor. Theater's. Even the walkways that cross over streets are sometimes called catwalks. Perhaps a better question is why ANY of these things are called catwalks since I doubt very much that cats frequent them.
