The first thing you have to understand is that Michael Keaton as Batman had critics think that he would be like a fish out of water since most of his roles were comical. But when the movie hit theatres people changed thier minds for his portrayal at Batman. Unlike his predecesors Val Kilmer and George Clooney he was voted as the favorite actor that played Batman in a movie.
People are posting thier answer think that Chrisian Bale portrayed Batman better than Keaton in my opinion enjoyed "Batman Begins". Yes, his role as a young Batman/Bruce Wayne was indeed worth the price of admission. However the truth is we are comparing oranges to apples.
Both of actors played Batman well enough to sell at the box office. Right now, if I were to choose which actor did a better job I'd have to go with Keaton only because Bale seemed more moody than Bruce Wayne should be.

Tough call...both had the dark Batman persona down cold. Bale did a better Bruce Wayne than Keaton did though. All in all I gotta go with Bale...There was just something more..intense...driven if you will that Keaton didn't tap into.

Keaton. Val and George were just making movies, didn't really feel like the first 2 Batman movies. Although Two Face seemed to be the one holding a believable personality in the Val Batman, while Carey was playing off some mental guy the entire time.

This is only one Batman and that is Michael Keaton! Even with my personal preference aside Christian Bale was voted the best batman on the most recent survey.

While Keaton was able to pull of the dual nature of the Bat, I think Bales good looks and overall demeanor made him a better Batman. The growling voice he used was also a good touch.

Christian Bale's because it logically answered alot of questions about Batman that the general populace had never had answered. Second Keaton's got kind of campy after the first film.

Michael keaton's batman for the Villians
George Clooney because evry woman in america loved him in the foam rubber
Val Kilmer because people enjoyed the riddler
