i am downloading this file and i click on the statistics it says there that my total download is 27gb ang upload of 16.12 gb is that true? the file im dwnloading is only 2gb whats happening?

i am not done downloading i didnt even reach 50% im at only 28

Essentially what that means is that "Peers" have connected to your computer and downloaded the same file you're downloading. Look at it this way, you're downloading a file, but it doesn't BitTorrent doesn't download it from beginning to end, in order. It only downloads bits a pieces from other peers and seeds. If you feel uncomfortable having other people downloading the file from you, you can always turn off uploading, though I don't recommend it as it will greatly decrease your download speeds. To answer your question (finally) yes, this is probably true, especially if you're already done downloading the file. If you're already done, and still uploading this is known as "Seeding" and if you're uploading and finished downloading, you're known as a "Seed." Some might say that seeding will lower your bandwidth, thus lowering your internet speed, but I have noticed the difference to be practically transparent.
