Haven't you ever heard of a double standard?

The issue is whether or not the respective rights of either group could have a negative impact on society, and in what ways they agree or conflict with the law, as well as how any hypothetical consequences of one compare to the other. The most obvious difference that comes to mind, is that a polygamous relationship can have economic problems, depending on how much the male, usually a male from my observation, can afford in terms of child care, his wives' well-being, etc. While there may be some evidence of a medical issue with the gay community and HIV/AIDS, the economic issue appears greater with polygamous persons. Also, the medical issue could be a constitutional issue as well. The major constitutional matter shared by both groups is that of equal protection and what it says, directly or not, about them. I'm not sure if the equal protection amendments, as they're called, apply to either, though that is often contended. Regardless, I would think that the social affect is greater on the polygamous side simply because more persons, by definition, involved, and that a lot of people in one sitauation adds to the potential for harm to someone within or without.

Polygamy is used in a way that is not safe to minors and abusive to women. Frankly I have no problem if a guy wants to live with two or three women. More power to him. If the women like it fine. But The situation with Warren Jeffs and his grooming little girls for polygamy and marrying 12 year old girls and having 10 wives is just not legal. It is a crime to sexually abuse a minor. By the way you misspelled polygamy. The mind set of these people is borderline retarded. Many are born with birth defects from inbreeding and the children born this way are left to die. This is not the same as being gay. Men who do this are criminals and should be.

One has nothing to do with the other. Most gay people want the same thing as heterosexuals to find the right person to be with and love.
Polygamist just want a reason to have several spouses.

I totally agree with what user: Luis G , had to say about the polygamy side of it.

In today's society it is totally unacceptable to practice polygamy. Adultery on the other hand is acceptable as evidenced by most TV shows, movies, etc. Which is more honest? An open polygamous relationship where a commitment is present or secretive adulterous relationships?

the problem we have with poligamy is that they tend to marry off yoiung girls to old men who already have 15 kids they won't support without asking the girls if they want to. Come on, no 13 year old girl is capable of making that kind of decision, especially when the man they marry is often their uncle, or 35 year old cousin.

Legal matters aside, and under the assumption that everyone in a polygamous relationship wants to be there, I wouldn't know many people in support of 'Gay Rights' and who'd also be against polygamy...

what do gay rights have to do with polygamy? absolutely nothing. this is about as pointless as asking 'how in the world can a society that allows jelly donuts have a problem with stealing cars?'.

Because in many, many cases the girls involved in the polygamous relationships are brainwashed or being forced to be a part of the relationship at a young age. They are not freely choosing to be a part of it.
