A friend of mine was ejected from his son's high school 's regional soccer game for simlpy saying "Speak English!" when the opposing team was conversing back and forth to each other, in Spanish, durring active play on the field. He only thought it was taking unfair advantage. I agreed with him. After all this is the USA and English is the language spoken here. This is in Kansas, of all places. Not Miami, FL. or east LA! What do you think?

Growing up in KC myself I lead a pretty sheltered life, but there's still racism.

A racial slur is anything that is said that can be (even unintentionally) a deraggatory (sp?) remark towards someone based on race...

While your friend may not have intended to offend the other team (at least not racially), it was still said simply because they were not speaking English.

Had the other team been speaking another language (real or made up) to keep their plans from the other team, would your friend have had a problem with it? A lot of teams develope code words or signals, isn't this the same thing?

Why would it matter what language they were talking in, shouldn't it matter who was playing better? Personally I don't see why anyone needed to understand what they were saying, just what they were doing. Think about the Olympics or the World Cup, if not for translators we wouldn't be able to understand most of what was being said either.

I think a racial slur is anything a non white wants it to be. As long as it benefits them.

Racial slur would be the use of derogatory terminology like the "N" word or others.
