Oryboy37,
If you want to reset your system to another date before the problem occurred or if you accidentally deleted something and want to try to recover it, here is the procedure:

You did not say what OS you use, so I'll assume WInXP.

Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore

There is a wizard to assist you. All you have to do is to just follow the instructions and choose a date in bold before the problem with your PC occurred or the problems that you are now having and follow the prompts as they occurred. What this procedure will do is to revert the operating system back to a Restore Point interval before the day you perform this procedure. No programs or personal files will be deleted.

After the reboot, you'll be able to access your system like before.

First, before you restore your system back to like it was when you first bought it, you might want to consider copying any data files you want to keep onto CD/DVD(s). You may also want to make a copy of your Internet Favorites folder too, so that you can use them to get your Favorites back after you finish restoring your system if you want to. I'm assuming, you are virus free. If not you may not want to keep anything from your current setup, unless you make sure you install a good anti-virus software program before bringing anything back to the new setup.

Performing a system restore varies from one computer manufacture to another. If your computer came with a restore CD/DVD, then you are already a head of the game because sometimes you have to order them for your computer if you want/need them.

Anyway, sometimes you put them in when you have Windows up and running and other times you put them in and boot the computer up from them. If you have the CD/DVD I would put it in and see if anything comes up, which gives you the option of restoring your system (not just fixing problems).

If nothing comes up leave the disk in the drive and reboot your system. If your system ask you whether you want to boot from the disk in the CD/DVD drive answer "Yes".

Generally speaking, it's safe to go with the default settings, when it asks about which partition to use and whether you want to allocate the whole drive (you do). In case it doesn't do anything with the partion and just goes into formatting of the drive instead, you want to format the drive and erase everything that is on there now, so answer "OK" to the formatting question.

I always go with the defaults, when installing software. However, once you have Windows installed and up and running one of the first things you do after you get connected to the internet is you might want to do some clean up. I always remove the installs for the ISPs that I don't need. Then, I remove any extra software and free offer software that clutters the system up.

Once I'm done cleaning things up, I run the Microsoft update several times until there are no more updates for me to pickup. Then, I install my Anti-Virus and Firewall protection and pickup all the updates for it. After that's done, I start installing all my other software and devices, and picking up the patches as I go along.

Finally, the last thing that goes back on the computer is the data that was backed up if there was any. The last step will take hours to run depending on how many programs were added and how much data was added, but I run the Disk Cleanup utility and then the Disk Defragmenter (this one can take hours).
