A computer that my daughter own is not powering up with the power switch..Neither can I get the DVD trays to open.The cooling and processor fans are running and thats about it.
There is no sound nor light on the mother board.The hard drive LED light comes on then goes off.

Of course you should start by making sure all connections are proper, including card insertions. If that's the case, try to reduce the possibilities by disconnecting all unneeded devices. You could keep your main hard drive but disconnect all CD/DVD and floppy drives cables (power & data).

Removing all cards other than the video card could help also.

If it does start, then the problem is either the Power Supply or one of the disconnected devices.

If you still can't get it to start, you'll need replacement parts to troubleshoot it completely.

Stop messing around and jerk the power supply before it destroys your computer. If you are running a cheap line of pc so is the power supply and probably does not have all the protection function that good power supplies have. Just pull it and get it tested. You don't want to test a faulty supply on your machine. I hope this helps. "PEACE"

Sounds like a power supply problem. Make sure the connections are all connected. If they are, replace the power supply.
