Tell you what......As long as you are going to be with a group of people you will be just fine......what you need to do is look on your cruise lines web site and find a shore excursion that you might like, tell your dad for fork over the money and you will be with 100 others from the ship and ship personnel and take a very safe shore excursion. Cruise lines do not take passengers to unsafe places......If there is any unrest ever, they avoid until safe to go back.....trust me I worked on cruises for 5 years.

You do need to avoid leaving the ship alone.....That is an accident waiting to happen......you will be like a piece of meat in a lions cage.......Jamaicans can be aggresive, but are very friendly for the most part......Just be smart and don't be lead astray

There are only a few spots where cruise ships dock depending on cruise line. The one in Ocho Rios is surrounded by a shopping district.

I would just say this, the cruise line would probably not stop in Jamaica if they thought it was unsafe to their passengers. Also Tourism is the biggest industry in Jamaica, so the authorities do everything they can to make sure visitors are safe.

If you do venture off the ship, do it as an on shore excursions that the cruise line has set up. This way you are part of group and you are all from the ship.

Jamaica is not really any more dangerous than visiting any major tourist location in the U.S. (Miami, for example). Is there crime? Yes. Do some people try to take advantage of tourists? Certainly.
But the cruise lines make a lot of money making sure that their guests have an enjoyable time and want to go again, so they try to direct you to the safest places. If your dad would let you go with your friends and their parents to New York or L.A., there is no real reason not to let you go to Jamaica.

Tell your dad that I recently tour the entire island and it's beautiful. Jamaica it's not dangerous, there's hassle in tourist areas an that's all. The only part of the island really dantgerous and even locals don't like to go is downtown Kingston. I don't know where do you live but there are plenty of USA cities much more dangerous.

No Jamaica is a great place to visit. In fact, I will be going on a cruise Sunday and one of our stops is Jamaica. We've been to Jamaica on a vacation years ago. This will be our second time on a cruise which Jamaica is one of the ports of call.

If book a off boat excursion in Jamaica then you will be with several people who are also from the cruiselines. People in Jamaica are the nicest people you will ever meet.

I do suggest that if this is your first time cruising any where that you don't venture off by yourself or hire anyone who's not from the cruise line to take your where you want to go no matter where you stop. It's better to purchase your off book excursions with the cruise lines only. People who tend to jump in a taxi and go where they please are the ones who are taking a high risk.

Jamaica has a government who are also there policeman, so don't be shocked if you do witness men protecting areas with guns.

It might be helpful if you got your dad to contact the cruise line directly and be reassured of your safety. I hope you enjoy your vacation and stay away from ganga....

I have been living here all my life and I'm still alive. I have not witnessed or experienced in any way a serious crime. Fortunate? Perhaps. My point is - NOWHERE is safe in this world, and Jamaica is no more "dangerous" than anywhere else. All you have to do is use your common sense and don't wander away from the family you'll be staying with. Tell your daddy to do some serious research before jumping to conclusions.

It is not dangerous at all. Just ensure that you get the tours with an escort/tour guide. I hope you are taking a cruise line which stops in Ocho Rios where you can go to the Dolphin Cove, Dunn's River Falls and the WHite River.

The first time i went to Jamaica was on a cruise, which me and my friend picked because it stopped there..when we got there, someone on the boat had referred us to a taxi driver that took us to some places around the area where the boat was..I dont mind a little dangenrous places in the world, but Jamaica is pretty ridiculous..not only the danger, but the harrassment...starting from the dock..even some women at the dock scarred me..and were free spirited, african clothes wearing pair, which i noticed helped on our second land trip. The second trip, i decided that i would only visit my beloved Jamaica again, with a body guard.. Have a good trip and be safe...

U dont need a bodyguard, no one is gonna shoot u and rape u or whatever. No bombs are gonna explode u americans need to get over ur selves, i get more harrassed in Brooklyn than i get in jamaica. Like someone else mentioned, stay with an organized tour. If you do that you will be fine. There are some very interesting things to see there. However, this is not a port to take off and do your own thing at. Crimes against tourist are very common and the police are also very corrupt. Stick with an organized tour and you will have fun.
