I am 5 weeks away from my due date and I want to know if any mothers can tell me what they packed for the hospital ( for themselves & the bag for the baby ) and didn't miss a thing. I want to be fully prepared! thank you.

Love,
Sarah

Well, it's been a while for me but I can tell you that after I had my baby I was so darn hungry all the time for the first day or so and they didn't really have great food. I had my mom bring me some bananas, packs of crackers and cookies, juice boxes, some gum, little things I could eat out of the drawer next to my bed. Clean socks. A lot more than one pair since you will probably get up and out of bed without using slippers most of the time. magazines and makeup...if you want to go home looking 1/2 way decent. Bring your phone book or make sure you have phone numbers of everyone your husband will want to call....One thing I loved was a spray can of Dermoplast. If they cut you a little and stitch you up in the area between your vagina and butt...it STINGS like a B *&ch when you pee. So I would spray the spray on the stitches area and it would numb it a little and when I peed, it wouldn't hurt nearly as bad. I know that's gross...but better to read it here than feel the sting first hand.

I keep thinking of new things. If you will not be nursing, your boobs will get super sore after a day or so. And some doctors will give a pill to help dry up the milk. Some will not give that pill. My boobs were so sore. Keeping them kind of tightly bound with an ace bandage helped me a lot. Or a sports bra that hooks in front would also work.

P.S. I think it's funny the person who said "panties" because when I was pregnant, there was no way I could have called them panties. They were just too ugly and big at that point! haha. Plus, the hospital will give you these really stretchy, ugly underwear that are breathable and good for wearing with the big ice pads they put on you.

Make sure you take a CAMERA!!!! If its your first baby you may feel uncomfortablewith the idea, but later you will regret not having those pictures. You want pics of the baby as he/she is being born, pics with you and daddy and baby. auntie, grandma and so on. Also pads- make sure they are the long thick ones. In my experience the hospital provides a lot of things like dermaplast (which will help). Don't forget your own hair products or bathroom products.

Bring pajamas for the baby. Try to find the ones that have hand covers so the baby doesn't scratch his face and to keep him warm. Car seat An outfit for the baby to have his newborn pictures taken in. Blankets, The hospital tends to have ugly baby hats- so bring your own.
Hope this helps!!

postpartum
a robe or nightgowns if you choose but i wore the hospitals cause they get runied sometimes from your period, toiletries including all your essentials like shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, body wash, lotions, makeup you'll want it, deodorant, some pads or tampons, underwear and nursing bras, more snacks, phone numbers of friends and family, going home outfit for you and baby, car seat, blankets, and last but not least a baby book

For you: Comfortable clothing, soap, shampoo, toothbrush, tooth paste, brush, 2 nursing bra if you planto nurse, Snacks for dad and you, couple of dollars in change , pads, undies that can be soiled, socks, magazines or something to keep you and dad occupied while in labor, pillows for oyu and dad if dad plans on staying at the hospital with you, maybe a blanket for dad, and an outfit to wear home.

For baby: a few outfits that are little different in size because the baby could be little or big, car seat, blanket, and a camera or two with lots of extra film.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

I went to verybestbaby.com and they gave a list.

It really depends on if you want natural or medicated birth. I hoped for natural but ended up with medicated.

I packed a ton of stuff I didn't need.

Here's what would be essential -
toiletries - toothebrush, toothpaste, brush/comb, hair elastics, soap, shampoo, conditioner

If you plan on nursing - nursing bra (I brought 2 but they got stained with colustrum - even though my lmilk wasn't in - the beginning stuff stains - so bring breast pads cause they don't ahve the slf stick kind - I love lansinoh brand - oh and a sports bra can work if you are larger chested - just pop your boob over the top :)

warm socks

an outfit to wear home for you and the baby. a blanket for the car seat for the baby.

carseat

change fo clothes for hubby and his toiletries

supplies for labor if you wnat to go natural - massage oils, bathing suit for hubby for being in shower (you can go in nakd he cant), back massager things... birth ball, etc....

Some things you won't need unless you really wnat to bring your own stuff - pajamas - you will get the gown all dirty durig delivery so wear the johnny. and you can live in johnny's for a couple days anyway ... just grab a spare if to put on in reverse if you wanna leave the room.

no need for underwear except for going home outfit - they usually will give you these weird mesh underwear things (may wanna bring some old ones just in case but i'd rather mess up the free disposable ones then min)

clothes 4 the baby - they provide those. they usually also provide diapers and wipes.

Also - ask your nurses for everything they may have as a free sample - your insuarnce will be paying fpr the stuff anyway so might as well make use... i got a TON of stuff.... soothies for my sore nipples, breast pads, giant maxi pads, pampers, wipes, manual breast pump...............

:)

For yourself, pack a nice sweat suit....you won't want anything too tight after you have the baby. You will still have a lot of tummy left right after delivery. Don't forget to pack things needed to take the baby home. Depending on the weather, warm clothes, car seat, extra baby blankets. You will be fine....you're just nervous because it is almost time! Good luck honey, God bless your new baby!

the hospital has all the things you need for the baby just make sure to make him/her a take home outfit (this is what they will take the newborn pics in) also a coat depending on how cold it is where you live and then take you a clean set of clothes, deoderant, toothbrush and toothpaste, hairbrush. Other stuff like pads the hospital will have in your room for you. I think thats all I took and that was good for me

Sanitary Pads, Breast Pads, Clean Clothes, clothes for the baby, 2 comfy night gowns for you, 6 pair underwear, 3 or 4 bras (nursing - loose ones, not - tight ones) shampoo and shower stuff. Forget the diapers, bottles, etc for the baby. All I needed was the clothes, blanket and car seat. For labor... magazines, snacks for your partner, phone numbers to call people, cell phone or calling card, pen and paper for recording feedings and diaper changes. I think thats about it. Good luck
