I've been on effexor for only 5 days, but PMS is here and I get it really bad. I mean depression, anger, paranoia, and just complete "freak out" mode. I'm still only on the 1/2 dosage of 35 1/2 mg, but today I had a crying spell and started thinking crazy things again. I know that it will only last until my period starts and then everything will be fine, but these next few days will be torment on my family. Any suggestions?

Are your PMS symptoms usually that bad? If not you should really talk to your doctor. I was on effexor for 2 years and I never had anything like that, but everyone is different. Effexor might not be the right drug for you.

If these symptoms are normal for you, then it's not surprising that the effexor isn't helping yet. It's way too soon - it usually takes a month or two before depression medications take their full effect. For me, even high doses of effexor only took the edge off the crying thing (again, everyone is different).

effexor in low doses is dangerous....take 150mg daily. 30 days before it works.

call your dr. and the therapist who is prescribing your meds. SOunds like they need to be adjusted and you need to be seen to keep yourself safe
