My boyfriend and I have argued about the for a long time. His family is from Salt Lake City. He has always wanted to move there because of his family. I have visited there and it was nice scenerey and temperature wise. However, because I am gay, I think that the Mormon's running the state would make it not fun to live in. I mean they already don't let you vote there. Anybody know more about this?

I bet you will be surprised by this answer, but here goes:
I used to travel a lot on business, and I have been either verbally or physically assaulted for being gay in every city I have visited - EXCEPT Salt Lake City. Most of this happened when near or at the local gay bars. (FYI I am not showing up in drag, quite masculine, etc.)
I also attended Utah Gay Pride when I was there - which was basically a few hundred people in a field - and it was really great, and free from the overcommercialization of most Pride events.
The people, all of them that I met, in SLC are extraordinarily polite and welcoming. That doesn't mean that they don't work for anti-gay legislation and preach bigotry behind the scenes, but at least they are nice to your face.
I can understand your turmoil. However, as someone else pointed out, living in the city itself would probably be much, much better than a rural area and more tolerant.
I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but relate my own experience. Good luck with your decision.

Very, very conservative place, but like someone else said, it is getting better. I had a middle school teacher that had just moved from Salt Lake and is Mormon to rural Ohio. She was very accepting of my transgender status and bisexuality, so there are some. Don't expect much good though, and definately prepare for far worse. Oh, and remember the rule here in the U.S.: bigger city=more tolerant.

Salt Lake City is becoming more progressive, but the state as a whole is quite conservative.

There are more Mormons in the state of California than in Utah. You'll find SLC to be very diverse. It's Provo that is Mormon-based. Utah is a very nice state to live in. If you can handle winter, you'll be fine.

U can vote if ur registered and SLC is not a bad place to live. There is not alot of Gay friendly places that's for sure. I have a few friends who are gay and live there and they are happy.

it's not that bad. it is beautiful and salt lake city is just like a lot of tolerant towns. they have a cute gay bar and a small scene complete with pride parade. it's the small towns you gotta watch out for: price, helper, orem...
