I'm assuming that you mean to make bread. To a mixture of grain flour and water, add yeast and some sugar. The yeast uses the sugar and turns out alcohol and carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is what makes the bread rise. When it's baked, the bread stays "foamy". By the way, all societies have discovered bread and beer at the same time. It's a yeast fermentation process in both cases.
