What exactly is a soul mate anyway? I kind of wonder if there really is such a thing.

I don't think there is such a thing as a soul mate. You can wait forever and never know.
I believe that when you meet someone and actually get to know them and learn to trust them, you will gain a love that is strong but still has it's moments where you will have to work hard at it.
Who can say what a soul mate is?
You can love someone so much and not have to spend every waking moment with them, you don't have to tell them all of your deepest secrets. There is such a thing called "ones own life".
When you are in love with someone and you both want the same things in that life, it doesn't mean you are soul mates, it means you love that person for who they are and what they mean to you.
You grow to love someone. How can you really love someone without knowing what they stand for, what they believe in.
If you want to believe in soul mates, then you have to grow to love that person for who they are and allow them to be who they are going to be.
The person you love today, you can hate tomorrow. That person that you call your soul mate can change your life at any given time.
Not always in a good way.

I like the other answer, When you feel absolute misery whenever there not within the general vacinity, also you'll kind of just know its like the words (your my soul mate) will just flow out of your mouth, plus I think your relationship consist of alot of levels a friend first and foremost probably the best lover you've ever had and its the best each and every time and on that subject you can do anything together and I mean anything and you feel totally comfortable, you tell eachother anything, you care about eachother as indaviduals sorta like you can seperate being a friend from being lovers when it comes to helping one another, you can weather anystorm and you trust one another without a doubet, if theres more to it I havnt got there yet but i'm working on it. Its when, that hole in your heart, that you didn't even know was there is filled, when you feel whole. You know, because you want to be with them even when they do things that get on your nerves. You know, that you could never go through life without them. If you can picture yourself, 20 years from now, without them next to you...then its not your soul mate, but if they are there, standing right next to you, holding your hand...you've found your soul mate.
