I could put it in. I have been singing with a guy for 2 and a half years and have had only three gigs. I work full time as an admin assistant in the legal industry and have chances of being a paralegal. I have never had a 'name' for myself. This job is very busy and i believe can take a lot of enery. The gigs seem to be coming I think. I am at the stage where if i become para then it will be too much for me to do both jobs, but when I have put in so much time with the singing i am sad to let it go. i just don't want to be medoka with a certain job. I want to be fully one or the other. I am 27 and single and time is ticking, I don't want to be an old dod being taught new tricks. Can you help me make a decision?
HELP!! :(

Honestly, it's really a matter of which one you'll be happy with twenty years from now. You have the opportunity to make good money, have a steady paycheck, and you will still have your voice. It might seem a little depressing to leave the idea of the lime light behind, but if singing doesn't work out for you, won't you be depressed that you didn't go with this opportunity? Aside from that the only other thing I think you should do is take a week off of work, try out for American Idol, and see where that takes you... if you're meant for the stage you'll get there!!! :) Good luck

I would have to say that my first thought was that you should follow your heart, and I wondered what age you were as I was reading the question...

I think you are still young and it would be good for you to pursue the singing side of things, you really have to give up that kind of thing after a while, you know?
That brings me to my next point, I don't know if you're talking about trying to make it big and stuff or just getting general work as a singer, but you really need to think hard about whether you're being realistic or not about the situation.

If you are in a good position for a good job just now you wouldn't want to ruin that by going after some dream you have little to no chance of achieving.
But at the end of the day, my thoughts are that there is plenty of time for "regular" jobs like the paralegal thing, and you should enjoy the time while you're young doing fun things and leave the hard work until later. It is always going to be there waiting for you.

How long did it take you to get to this stage with the job oppertunity? If you got there once i'm sure you could get there again.

Or, the other posters have gave good advice, and if possible you should definitely try and squeeze them both in. Try taking the paralegal job and just waiting to see how the singing goes, it might fizzle out and you won't have missed your oppertunity or it might get good and you can decide to leave your job if you really can't do both at the same time.

Good luck, i'm sure all the answers have gave you a lot to think about but try talking to people you know and asking for their honest opinion or just being really honest with yourself, you probably already know the answer somewhere inside.

Maybe you could look for a job that will allow you to do both? Another solution may be to quit for a period of time. I don't know anything about being a paralegal, but is it the kind of job with a lot of demand? If so you could quit altogethor and devote all your time to singing. You could pick out an amount of time to see if you can make a living at it and if you can, then you will be paid for doing what you love. If it doesn't you can always go back to being a paralegal later. Life is too short not to give your dream at least a good try.

I graduated from lawschool, have dreamed of becoming a successful singer. Have failed the Bar three times and am getting married right before the next Bar Exam. I can't find a job although I hope to find a job as a paralegal, I am broke and in deperate need of some money. I wish I could help you but I am in a worse situation than you. All I can say is will you regret not pursuing a music career, will you be always wondering "what if" if so give it a shot. If you value more your security take the paralegal job and give a 100%.

Youll have time for both. My sister and my nephew both have bands and they both also have full time jobs. They both have gigs every weekend and sometimes during the week, plus theyve worked all day, Mon-Fri. My nephew is 31 and my sister is 51, and if they can do it, you can do it. The paralegal job is a good one, I wouldnt walk away from that opportunity. The singing is most likely a hobbie, a fun one indeed, but I wouldnt rely on that to be the bread winner, unless youre gonna hit the bigtime.

Go with the paralegal thing... It's a steady gig and you can always sing wherever and, more importantly - whatever - YOU want to sing rather than what the contract says... Besides, there's always karaoke...

Go with your heart. This time in your life do what really feels right to you. Plus do you want to be asking the questions 10 years from now" What if". You never know unless you try, plus you only live once. Do what you love to do and stick with it. But only you can answer this question. But you never what to ask yourself what if when you get older, because you will never know. But I say go for it, do what you love. Goood luck and God Bless. You will pick the right thing for you. I always say follow your heart.
