Mountains fold at fault lines because two large plates of the Earth's crust collide. They can't go anywhere when it involves two continental plates so they push each other up.

The continental plates cannot sink or be destroyed so they push sediment(layers that formed over the years) between them upwards forming fold mountains. :)

2 plates push themselves together... and basically get into a fight over space... both equally as strong, neither wanting to give up...until they buckle and bend upward. as they keep pushing together the tips bend further upwards... try pushing a carpet against a wall and watch it bend upward
