There is a recall campaign that relates to the ABS portion of the Jeep brakes, and as such also relates abstractly with the rest of the braking system.
"Daimler Chrysler Corporation has determined that a problem which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1989 through 1991 Jeep Cherokee and wagoneer vehicles . . . with .. .ABS
'The problem is . . . The Abs hydraulic control unit . . . may experience excessive brake actuator piston seal wear and or pump-motor deterioration . . . .
Owners of vehicles that experience any of the following symptoms should contact their dealers immediately to schedule a service appointment:
'Either the Brake System Warning Light or the Antilock Warning Light remains illuminated more than two minutes after starting the vehicle; or if either light comes on at any other time during vehicle operation;
'A substantial increase in brake pedal force is needed to stop the vehicle; or 'Any other ABS malfunction occurs.
'If your ABS brake system is operating properly and none of the above symptoms are present, no action is necessary at this time. However, if any of these symptoms appears in the future, contact your dealer for a free repair.
'DaimlerChrysler will test your . . . ABS for excessive piston seal wear and possible pump-motor deterioration. If problems with these components are found at any time during the entire life of your vehicle, Daimler Chrysler will replace these components free of charge. . . .
'In addition to this recall action, the warranty period on
other ABS components in your vehicle is being extended to 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. If any of these other ABS components fail within 10 years or 100,000 miles, your dealer will correct the problem free of charge.
This extended warranty does not include any base brake system components.
'Further, Daimler Chrysler will reimburse owners for any previous ABS components incurred within the limits of the extended warranty. . . .
'If you have any trouble getting your vehicle repaired, please call the Daimler Chrysler Customer Service Center at (800) 853-1403. *** "
This is the gist of the recall notice sent out by Chrysler.
BTW---They are not the same as Blazer brakes, and the parent company is not GMC.
Call the jeep dealer and ask about the "silent" recall for this issue. If they are not forthcoming, then call the number listed in the text of the recall noted above.
Good Luck

It is an inherent design flaw. The Cherokee shared the same brakes as the Chevy Blazer. The ABS design is so bad it should be criminal to sell these vehicles. The rotor is too small to stop the vehicle.The same is true of the Suburban. I worked at NAPA Auto parts and we used to shake our heads at the poor design. The ABS pumps violently and inefficiently. My Blazer would not stop at speeds of ten miles an hour if the road was wet.
I would suggest taking it to the dealer and let them know if they can not fix the problem then you will sue Jeep. and the parent company GMC. Unless the mechanic would like to buy it for his daughter.
