The bats do break more often. They are lighter and more of the weight is at the handle so the hitters can get the bat through the hitting zone quicker, causing them to break more often.

The bats used to be heavier quite a while ago. They are lighter now. Some times a batter will go through 10 bats in one week, other weeks they might not even break one. It just depends.

I notice that too. I suspect that they are constructed different, not illegal, just different. I know that true old age hardwoods, like ash, have been cut down and the woods are mostly new growth woods that may be different. It could be that batmakers are laminating bats with such softer hardwoods also, like a corked bat, but legal. Just an educated guess.
