I saw a show on the history channel that talked about that. They were stretching the truth to interest readers. It wasn't until after these books were published that Americans started to get fasinated with zombies. The original idea of a zombie was that of a living person without a soul. The soul was captured by a Bokor and the person made to be a slave for that Bokor.

Night of the living dead was the first movie to depict zombies as flesh eating killers. If you want to know the truth about zombie folklore in Haiti speak with a Haitian Mambo or Hougan. They are the priests of Vodou. If you can't find one then you can read the book The Serpent and the Rainbow by Wade Davis. He has a very good account of how zombies are portrayed in Haiti.

I never knew that but my husband is Haitian and he told me that part of what makes someone zombie like is some mixture that contains something from the puffer fish. It makes the heartbeat undetectable but can be deadly. Its like a religion. I saw something once on discovery about it. Maybe a library in a city may have the books you are looking for. You know a library on a larger scale perhaps even a college library.

I don't see why people have to flame a person that just asks a question.... or respond with "a buncha crazy ******".

Anyway, I recently read a book that talked about the process for creating zombies. If done correctly, then you have a person appear to die, but then later wakes, and becomes extremely groggy and feeble. They are prone to be very suggestive, usually obeying commands without the slightest thought. So your book may be accurate.
