I took several online classes a few years ago.I chose to attend online because of my work schedule at the time.I chose to take the online classes from a local community college. It was important to me that my online school also be a conventional college. The classes were quite hard and required more reading and writing than attending a conventional class would have. I feel I didn't learn as much as I would have had in a live class.
Online you miss that spontaneous idea sharing that goes on in live classes. You also miss out on the social benefits of a live class too. I also found that I was not inspired my teachers as I had been in previous in person classes.

Just a few years ago, they were thought of like the old "correspondence schools" or considered "diploma mills" where you got a degree merely by paying a certain amount of money. These still exist, but many reputable schools now have on-line degree programs in all sorts of disciplines. They are great for any one who is busy, including shift workers, single parents, those who travel, and those who hate tests (me), don't like speeches (me). Some of the members of the U.S. Military are able to finish their degrees this way.

My diploma reads just the same as the "traditional" students from the same school.

I love online classes! You can do the work anytime, anywhere, in your pajamas and slippers or in bed. Plus, you don't have to deal with stupid people in class, sit for hours on end listening to a boring lecture, and most teachers won't make you do group work, which I hate. I think they're wonderful!
