NO. Uncomfortable, Yes. It's more like a little sting in your back for about 15 seconds and after that you don't feel anything. It does take the meds some time to fully kick in and you may need adjustments but it didn't hurt for me with either of my kids! Oh yeah, the contractions, they hurt worse that anything you have every felt in your entire life!!! Whoever invented the epideral should have gotten a Nobel Peace Prize!!!! LOVE IT!

Tip: While you are getting the epideral you will sit sideways on your bed with your arms over either your partner or the table, to get your mind off what they are doing behind you try this trick. Roll your ankles. If you are having contractions while they are doing your epideral it is really uncomfortable and it hurts so I found this trick to take my mind off what was going on. Breath and concentrate on rolling your ankles. Sounds weird but it works! Good luck and congrats!

Everyone is different. I have had it twice and it was a piece of cake. I remember having to put my feet in a chair beside the bed and bending over. It felt cold with a little bee sting and it was over. I have to agree with what one of the other girls said, the removal of the tape, I think, was the worse part of the whole epideral ordeal. They insert the itsy bitsy tiny tube in your back and run it up your back and over your should so they are able to get to it to administer the medicine and they tape it all the way down your back. Trust me, they show no mercy when removing that tape. Good Luck!!! I hope everything goes well with you and your child. May God Bless!!!

Dunno. Had a spinal block for a c section both times. And that didn't hurt, and I heard those were worse than epiderals. Just make sure you stay still and dont move, cuz that is when it does hurt. And if it does hurt, once the meds kick in you will be fine. no pain

I didn't have any pain meds or numbing during delivery. The cramps were like bad period cramps, but there wasn't a lot of "pain" like you see in the movies. No screaming or flailing around. It's very manageable pain.

When it was time to finally push, that felt so good....like an itch I was just allowed to scratch. They won't let you push until you are dialated to a certain degree.

I pooped on the table when I was pushing. Yuck, I know, but a lot of women do it. Once you have crapped yourself in front of doctors and nurses, the pain is so NOT an issue at that point. Getting your new baby out is the goal!

It doesn't hurt, but it is done during a time that you are in a lot of pain, and then they have you sit, and tell you that you need to hold completely still - while you are having hard contractions!!!!

But I would go through it all again to feel the relief that I felt from that thing. I went from being in unbearable pain to relaxing enough to catch some sleep in about fifteen minutes. It made labor much more bearable. And it gave me a whole new respect for my sister, who went into and through labor so fast that she couldn't have anything - she did it "natural".

They absolutely do hurt. But with everything that is going on with your body, it really doesn't matter much. In the long run, epidurals are the best thing going. Once they kick in, you can relax and focus on the delivery of your new baby. Don't think you are not brave for having an epidural. A real hero is being a good parent. Good luck!!!

Not to bad but everyone is different. I've had 3 children, 2 without epidural and one with. Every women is equipped to handle what happens during birth. It does get painful but there are ways to deal with it, like hypnosis or a doula helps. The epidural has after effects that no one tells you about. like feeling very itchy for a few days after. Look into other options. Good luck!

Why are you concerned about the epidural? I have had two children naturally and never had pain the way I saw on movies etc. You can deliver without pain meds. Getting an epidural does hurt, they insert a needle into the fluid next to your spine and run a tiny tube called a catheter into your epidural space to deliver pain medication. Epidurals come with a lot of potential side-effects and have an increased risk of ceasaren birth. This is something you need to discuss with your Ob-Gyn. Any advice you get on Yahoo! is going to be from other moms and various other people, take it with a grain of salt.
Good luck.

The epidural is like a godsend compared to the contractions. It doesn't hurt at all. You just feel a little pressure and some poking, but nothing as painful as getting a shot, even!

I didn't hurt me one bit with both of my daughters. It felt just like a needle prick in your back. Compared to the contractions, it was a piece of cake. But it is different for everyone. Every woman has a different threshold of pain and it depends on how well the doctor does it. Hope this helps.
