a starter is someone who starts the game. there are running backs who are the primary runner, the full back who runs the ball some but usually blocks, the offensive line brocks the quarterback from getting hit, the tight end brocks but sometimes he will receive. The punter kicks the ball to the other team and the kicker will kick field goals and extra points. In the defense, the defensive line are responsible to stop the run and get to the quarter back. The linebackers usually look to stop the run but they are cover the pass. Cornerbacks cover mainly receiver and safeties usually help out to prevent a pass.

There are guards and tackles on offense and defense. On offense there usually is a RB and a FB and a TE depending on the formation. There is also a Center that snaps the ball to the QB. On D there are Safties Linebackers and Corner Backs that start.
