Imagine you are laying on the floor and cockroaches are walking all over you. Not such a nice image, is it? Some women are scared of them because they are like you said, nasty and gross, and they are scared of the possibility that those nasty and gross creatures will touch their beautifull skin...
Admit it! You are scared of them, too! ADMIT IT!!!

Afraid as in a phobia? I think the fear comes from having something scuttle along the floor, under your feet unexpectedly. After that, for most people, I think the grossness sets in.
It's kind of funny because my mother does just about have a phobia when it comes to cockroaches, yet while working as a docent at the zoo she could handle the Madagascar Hissing Cockroach. Can't imagine seeing something that size and not getting a bit worked up. After all, he probably has brothers...

I hate flies as much as cockroaches. They are germ carriers and disease carriers. Do you know that cockroaches are one of the few insects that can cause an asthmatic child or anyone allergic to them to go into an attack? They spread germs and they are nasty and they are fast and they hide and they only come out at night. Most people just don't like creepy crawly nasty insects. I hate and fear snakes as well, my mom put that fear in me from childhood and it will never go away. So what. Fear is a natural reaction to something that you hate or dislike if it can harm you.

I do not have a fear of them, but as you said they are nasty and gross. They also carry disease. I do not like flies or spiders either. I personally do not like insects in my house at all of any kind. There place is outside in the grass. God bless

I jumped out of a moving car once because of gigantic cockroaches in the car..... I don't know why I'm so afraid - but I am - and always have been. We don't get many in the cold northeast so I wasn't raised with them. I think it's their speed that bothers me the most... as well as the crunchy exterior..... very disgusting to me.....
If I saw a cockroach, there's no way I could sleep until I saw it dead. I ended up bringing lizards in the house as the cockroaches ate "No Roach" for desert...... and you could walk them on a leash!!"......... glad I don't live THERE anymore.... I think San Antonio was horrific.... beautiful city but no way I could live there.

Did you ever see on TV or hear of the babies that died in their cribs because cockroaches blocked their airway? Or did you hear about the kids that were deaf because cockroach's crawled into their inner ear canals and died. True stories- women become moms and stories like these freak us out- and face it, they are the UGLIEST had shelled big legged bug around.

Well, I am not scared of them but I don't like them. So if I see one -- in my house, I mean, then I just step on it. They make a horrible squash but crushing them really is the best (and cheapest!) way to get rid of them. I do the same with any nasty bugs I see in the house.

Ok let me think... I am terrified of them beasties because
1. they are big
2. they are fast
3. they crawl on you and when you notice they run all over you
4. they feed on dead things
5. they love drainage
6. they carry diseases (coz of what they eat and where they live)
7. they reproduce at an alarming rate so where there is one you will find many more
8. they fare a lot better than me in the dark
9. they are very resistant to pesticides (and get immune to most after a few exposures)
10 they are totally and completely digusting YUCK!!!

It is just a natural feeling really, everyone has something that creeps them out. i.e. Men and commitments ;) haha kidding. but The reason for fear is just that creepy crawly, disgusting things that live with you inside a house triggers us to be disgusted by the fact that they are just so dirty.
