If you haven't gotten your period before this ... it might be the beginning of your first period. Sometimes your body may take a few cycles of hormones before it gets adjusted enough to actually make a "period" which is noticable. You are at just the right age for this to start.

It could also be a result of your hymen breaking, especially if you have been doing any physically demanding work or sports that would involve stretching your pelvis (gymnastics, horseback riding, karate, etc.) This might be true if the spotting lasts a day or two and goes away, never to reappear.

If this persists for more than a day or two, you should see a gynecologist (OB-GYN) or your family doctor. If it comes back in a few months, and you still haven't gotten your period, you should go see your doctor/OB-GYN, since you might be starting your period, and should get the basic advice and examination any young girl would need.

That sounds exactly like the beginnings of a first time period. Don't be worried if you just have this brown discharge for a few days, and then nothing else happens for several months. It would also be normal to have the brownish discharge every month or so for awhile. It takes time before a period becomes regular.

I would say you are normal, healthy, and about to get your period.
