6(a + 4) = 5a + 12 6a + 24 = 5a + 12 a + 24 = 12 a = -12 x/2 - 4 = 5 x/2 = 9 x = 18 7a/3 + 5 = 5a/6 14a + 30 = 5a 30 = -9a a = -10/3 3a + 6/4 = 15 12a + 6 = 60 12a = fifty 4 a = 9/2 5m - 2/6 = 9 - 3m/2 30m - 2 = fifty 4 - 9m 39m - 2 = fifty 4 39m = fifty six m = fifty six/39

FIRST YOU HAVE TO GET LIKE TERMS TOGETHER ON BOTH SIDES: 5A+12=6-3A WOULD BE 5A+3A=6-12, YOU BRING THE 3A OVER WITH THE 5A AND IT BECOMES A POSITIVE 3A AND THEN BRING THE POSITIVE 12 TO THE RIGHT SIDE WHICH BECOMES A NEGATIVE, THEN COMBINE LIKE TERMS SO YOU ADD 5A+3A=8A AND 6-12=-6 THEN YOU DIVIDE BOTH SIDES BY 8 WHICH GIVES YOU -6/8 WHICH CAN FURTHER BE REDUCED TO -3/4,

5A+12=6-3A
-12 -12=
5A=-6-3A
+3A +3A=
8A=-6
A=-6/8 ( 2 GOES INTO BOTH TERMS WITHOUT LEAVING A REMAINDER) WHICH IS EQUAL TO:
A=-3/4

5a + 12 = 6 - 3a
5a + 3a = 6 - 12 --> add 3a on both sides so it will cancel out on the right side
8a = -6 --> subtract -12 on both sides so it cancels out on the left side
a = -3/4 --> divide by 8 on both sides

First isolate your varibles on one side, by adding or subtracting like varibles, so that varible will be on one side: 5a+12=6-3a

+3a +3a
_____ _____
8a a cancels out (0a)
Now the equation is 8a+12=6, in the end you want (a) by itself so you subtract 12 from each side, because in the equation 12 is a positive number.:8a+12=6

-12 -12
_______
0 -6
So now the equation is 8a=-6. You don't want any number next to the varible you are trying to find so you divide each side by the number in front of the varible, so in the end (a) will equal a number.:8a/8=-6/8. 8 would cancel 8 out because it is being divided by itself. and your left with 1a which is equivalent to (a) by itself and -6/8 which equals -.75.

So a=-.75 in fraction form a=-3/4

5a + 12 = 6 - 3a

Add 3a to both sides and you get:

8a + 12 = 6

Subtract 12 from both sides and you get:

8a = -6

Divide both sides by 8 and you get:

a = -6/8

Reduce the fraction and you get:

a = -3/4 (a is equal to minus three fourths)

2006-10-24 15:01:12 · answer #6 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

5a + 12 = 6 - 3a
you bring the 3a over, so it becomes
5a + 3a + 12 = 6
Then you bring the 12 over
8a = 6 - 12
8a = -6
a = -6/8

5a+12=6-3a
bring 3a to the left side so "-" will become"+"
5a+3a+12=6
then simplify
5a+3a=8a(because they are like terms)
8a+12=6
then take the 12 to right side
8a=6-12
now 6-12=-6(sub & put the sign of the bigger no)
8a=-6
a=-6/8
a=-3/4

2006-10-24 15:04:08 · answer #8 · answered by aishu 1 · 0 0

5a+12=6-3a
Add 3a from the right side to 5a on the left side
8a+12=6
Subtract 12 from the left side and the right side
8a=-6
Divide 6/8
a=6/8
Simplify
a=3/4
in decimal form: .75

There ya go

yes

5a+12=6-3a

Step 1: get all your variables (a) to one side. add 3a to each side.

5a+3a+12=6-3a+3a <<< 5a+3a is 8a, and -3a+3a=0

Step 2: get all your numbers together. subtract 12 from each side.

8a+12-12=6-12

this simplifies to be 8a= -6

Step 3: get a by itself by diving both sides by 8.

8/8 equals one, and 1 times a is just a, leaving you with a= -6/8

Step 4: simplify your fraction. a= -3/4

anything you do to the left you do to the right. add 3a to both sides to cancel it on the right-adding it to the left. you get 8a+12=6. now subtract 12 from both sides to show 8a=-6. now divide -6 by 8. a= -3/4. i did intermediate math last semester
