What do I need to travel with fish for an hour, and will they be okay?

What does the vet have to do with anything? To be more specific, I am traveling from school to home in the winter twice.

im going to assume that you are moving and driving, what i have had great success with is the following

go to your local pet store and ask for some large fish bags

drain the tank water into water jugs so you can take some of it with you

leave just enough water in the tank that the gravel remains wet

bag up your fish (DO NOT blow into the bag) making sure there is plenty of air in the bag

go to the new place and immediatly set up the tank using the water you brought and any new water that might be neccarry for topping it off

good luck

Use a 5 gallon bucket that hasn't been used for anything else (I.E. new), or a styrofoam cooler from the grocery store (if temperature change is an issue the cooler will insulate the water). Don't feed the fish for a couple days prior to the move so there is less chance of dirtying the water. Whatever fish, they'll be fine like that for several hours.

0)Get 2 large plastic containers. One with 1 gallon per 5 fish for your fish. The other big enough to hold your gravel and 1 gallon of water. Lids would be nice. If your car is not heated consider a cooler for the fsh.

1)Fill 80% of the fish with tank water. Add fish.

2)Put gravel and a gallon of tank water into the 2nd container. Also throw in your filter media. (Note if this is an unfiltered tank/bowl don't bother with step #2) This will keep the bacteria that eat ammonia alive.

3)When you arrive add in container #2, then container #1 with the fish. Add in 10% of your tank's total every 1/2 in new water.

No don't travel with your fish. I traveled with my little turtle and she got home safe but then when I got to the new place she was going to live in she died a week later.Give your fish to a good person.

we are moving 4 hours away in 2weeks we have 4 fish tanks. Alot of Fish. we are moving our fish in home brewing barrells. they have a leak proof seal around the rim of the barrell. it has a small whole in the top so u can put in a air tube. at your local fish shop they shoud sell a air pump u can plug into the cigerette lighter in the car. we are going to place the barrells behind the front seats of the car. hope this helps. i dont know if it is going to work. good luck!!!!!!!

just buy one of those small plastic containers for fish and fill it so the fish has enough water to stay under but water wont spill out. Or you could always get a small clear storage container and fill that partway and poke holes in the top for oxygen and fill that partway with water.

What kind of fish? Do they need an air pump? Are they saltwater or freshwater fish? Your best bet would be to go to a pet store that specialized in exotic fish and ask them for advice. They will surely have all of the answers for you. After all, those fish are transported to thier store SOMEHOW, right? :)

GET YOURSELF A POLYSTIRINE CONTAINER,PLACE A PLASTIC BAG WITH WATER IN IT,ALLOW THE WATER TEMPERATURE TO BECOME THE SAME AS WHAT YOUR FISH ARE IN,THEN PLACE YOUR FISH INTO THE BAG,THE POLYSTIRINE CONTAINER SUPPORTS THE BAG AND ALLSO KEEPS THE WATER TEMPERATURE THE SAME,IF YOU ARE TRAVLING A LONG DISTANCE THEN YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE OXYGEN PUMPED INTO THE BAG AND IT TIED OFF WITH A RUBBER BAND, THIS WILL HOLD THE FISH FOR A FEW HOURS,TRY TO ONLY DO THIS IN COOL TEMPERATURES,BUT YOU DO SAY IN WINTER,IF YOU CANT GET OXYGEN AND YOUR JURNEY YOU SAY IS ONLY ONE HOUR YOU SCHOULD BE FINE BUT STOP HALY WAY AND OPEN BAG FOR AWHILE,BUT ITS RELLY WATER MOVEMENT THAT REPLACES THE OXYGEN, BUT FOR ONE HOUR IN THE COOL THEY WILL BE FINE
