The average rent per month of a typical two bedroom property here in Southampton is £700, depending on the area. Just wondering if it's worth me relocating to the North, as I am lucky enough to earn roughly the same salary up there to.

That all depends on where you want to live in the Manchester because rents do fluctuate according to the area. For instance if you wanted a trendy apartment (flat) in Salford Quays that would set you back a good £850 pcm on average. On the other hand if you had a typical two-up, two-down terrace house in somewhere like Rusholme, Didsbury, Wilmslow, places not so 'trendy' and a lot run-down, then you'll probably looking at no more than £500 per month.
My advice to you would be to visit the city, choose an area you like the look of, then find a suitable property there after.

It's a case of looking around. I think, like any area, that prices tend to fluctuate.

For the outskirts of Manchester you are looking at between £550 and 800 a month. For City Centre you are looking at between £750 - 1350 a month. You can have a look here for some sort of idea:

But like I said: look around, and you could find a bargain.
I rent a 2 bedroom, 3 floor cottage near Manchester (30 minutes by car to the centre, 45 by bus).

My rent? £240 a month.

Depends which area you're looking at. In South Manchester it's anything from £550 to £800, but remember that in Manchester there are a lot of new apartments and conversions being built which are quite pricey.

Try this: http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/homesearch/index_lettings.html

My 2-bedroom flat is just over £200 a month, but I'm in a council flat. YAY :-D

I have to say that the cost of living in Manchester is cheap (it's why I moved here in the first place). Lots of cheap beer and plentiful and cheap public transport :-)
