Why does it seem that the majority of believers feel that it must be a MORE intelligent life form?
I find it to be a great possibility that "we are not alone" but am not sold on the idea that they or it is necessarily more advanced. What do you think???

Several prominent scientist would agree with you. Steven Pinker, MIT, supports the idea that the evolution of intelligence, as we have it, is like the evolution of the elephant trunk. It is a response to a particular set of environmental effects that we can only truly be certain of on earth. I half believe this, but I think that "intelligence" which we identify as that which is couched in our human terms is probably likely to arise because it is generally a good tool for a living thing to have to aid survival. Just because an alien can have intelligence doesn't mean they are "more advanced." In fact we, as humans, wouldn't probably have the capacity to understand them if we ran into them anyway because our ability to comprehend the behaviors of living things is strictly limited to Earth inhabitants (and we aren't great at figuring that out either).

likely there are many levels of intelligence in the universe and many different kinds of intelligence. a creature could be vastly smarter than us but have no way of communicating it to us (think of dolphins).
also, if aliens flew down in spaceships to visit us, we could assume they were smarter, but then imagine the first british and spanish sailors to encounter americans: dirty, diseased, debaucherous and depraved. hardly the height of european thought and progress. those beings piloting the ufo's are likely the basest form of capable intelligence in the galaxies. poorly representing the engineers who built their craft.

Yes more intelligent than us, esp. with engineering those ships(seriously). There is enough evidence and witnesses to prove that they exist unless the goverment is really that good of covering things up.
