First of all, you need to educate yourself on ferrets. It's not like having a cat or a dog at all. Go to www.ferretcentral.com They have a ton of information there. Also, you have to have ALOT of time with them. You can not leave them to their own devices like you can a cat. You do have to train them to go to the litter box usually...depending on how old the ferret is. And when little, they do bite...but so do any sort of babies. There's training there as well. You need alot of time. Do you have that sort of time ? And they are expensive. Vet exams, food, toys, cage, litter boxes, hammocks.....I used to have 21 of them so I know. Please research them BEFORE getting one or more. Also, if you want them to smell even more, bathe them. I would suggest making sure your ferret is decented. Then they have minimal smell. And you need to keep their bedding clean as well. That helps alot.

I have a ferret and both my pitbulls get along with it. Contrary to what people think not all ferrets stink. You could be in the same room as my ferret and its cage and never know that it was there. Most people tell you to bath the ferret everyday, but this will only make it stink worse. You really only need to bath it if it has something on it. When you bath a ferret it makes the oils in the skin work even harder this is one of the reasons they stink. Another is the fact that they have a gland which allows them to spray, but many of them that you buy in the pet store have already had the gland removed. If you want a ferret you better be willing to give it lots of attention and will have to do a lot of cleaning. I wipe down its cage once a day with antibacterial wipes and dismantle and wash the cage once a month. Hope this helps you out some. Ferrets really do make great pets!

Do not place ferrets anywhere near dogs!!! Dogs normally attack smaller animals, especially since a ferret is pretty much a cute looking rodent, no matter how good your dogs plays nice with other dogs. Your best option would be to get either a play pen for the ferret or a big cage. Also, like with any animal, make sure you have enough time for them. Go to the sites I put on the bottom to get a good background on and things to buy for them.

Ferrets are gr8 pets, they are a bit on the pongy side, but thier scent glands can b removed by a vet. They can b taught to use a kitty litter tray, and love a cuddle and to bounce around and play, a lot like a kitten. As for getting along with a dog, it depends on the dog...if ur dog is calm around other animals, with some patience, i dont imagine it would take too long to have them getting along well

I think ferrets are cute, but the ones I have been around stink. They have a certain odor that I'm not particularly fond of. Also, you have to train your dog to respect your ferret, as this does not come automatically.

Some states don't allow as pets because people will let them out and since they were not raised in the wild they won't survive.
So, be sure to keep your ferret safe.
I knew a guy who had one. A white one he called Daisy. When I visited his parents on business I would find a bunch of fine needles pricking the skin on my leg as Daisy climbed into my lap.
She had her bed and feeding dish in the garage.
She is a meat eater and when he'd let her have a bite of ice cream or other non meat, she got sick and poop liquid poop all over their floor.
Realize they are a nice pet and if you have two they can put on a real show. But they take a lot of daily care.

welli have two they do smell but i use bio odor (marshals pet products). if you supervise every encounter with the dog it should be ok if they get along at all my male loves cats and my female has played witha rottie both on leashes of course. but they require alot of time and money but are well worth it. to find out more get on your search engine (google yahoo whatever) and just type in stuff like ferret info, ferret supplies, ferret medical, i have tons saved on my favorites list. ferretuniversity.com; ferret.org; essentialferretguide.com. just check it out marshallpet.com has great links too

ferrets can be cool, temperaments vary- handraised ones are usually easier to handle, the more they are handled and treated well, the better they are, you need to be aware that they like ot nest in just about any space.... seem to like nocturnal activities best! also even tho they can be litter box trained, some do not look very far for the box- i.e. need many training pads/boxes. Ours got along fine with dogs and cats and kids.(No cruelty allowed!) each has its own personality!we did crate ours at night, otherwise he had the run of the house.
