the university i'm planning to go to only offers Zoology as a biomedical science. I want to major in Biochemistry which gives me a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, but it didn't say it was a biomedical science. Would it be better to major in biochm or zoology if i want to go to med school?

A biochem degree is fine, and just make sure you take the other stuff like a year of bio and some english classes. Sometimes schools want psych classes too. I would say biochem over zoology though, but good grades are good grades..!

I would also strongly recommend also doing some kind of medical work - whether it be volunteering or working in a lab or whatever so that you have some kind of exposure that has confirmed your own desire to go into medicine.

no you do not have to have a degree in biomedical. It is proven that more philosophy majors get into grad school over most other majors. The only problem with that is, after undergrad you have to take a very hard test. I do not remember the name of the test. This test basically shows how well rounded you are in the discipline in which you want to study in grad school. So you will have to study really hard. Because i might be going into the medical feild to be an orthopedic surgeon and the university I am planning on attending said that I did not have to study pre-med or biochem or anything of the nature to get into med school.

My daughter majored in chemistry at a local university, not even biochemistry. She did take the recommended undergrad biology classes, and had no trouble getting into Texas A&M med school (although she was wait-listed initially). It is my understanding that chemistry degrees are looked on more favorably than biology degrees by the prestigious med schools, but that was ten years ago.

Biochem will give you a lot of the classes you need to get into med school. Check with the med schools to see what they require and then look at the classes each degree requires. I think Biochem would probably be a better fit, but that's something for you to decide.

No you don't, but you must keep in mind what you'll do if you can't get into med school. Biochem majors have an easier time of finding jobs than bio/zoology majors.

You can actually get a degree in just about anything and go to med. school. You should be able to major in biochem and get into med school. You may want to talk to an advisor at the college you want to go to.

I think most medical colleges would readily admit, or consider for admission, someone with a biochem major. You will need to take at least two semesters of zoo, but that should not be a problem.

Either one. As long as you take the pre-med courses and do well in them, most medical schools don't care what your major is. My roommate got into medical school and he majored in history.
