I think it's sad when people are judged this way. It's quite a disadvantage to a lot of people who could have great potential in a lot of things but are never given the opportunity. Someone once explained to me that many people think of themselves as stupid because they do not have book smarts however they fail to realize there are other types of inelegance. Creativity is a big one. It took creativity to come up with many things in life. For instance air crafts. Obviously there is math and mechanics behind that there is also creativity. If it hadn't been dreamed up it couldn't have been made. Just as creative people can be book smart poor, book smart people can lack creativity. There's also social skills, general knowledge such as cooking and house hold things, leadership skills, and many others as well.
I wonder how many people have been dismissed as stupid or lazy just because they lacked in book smart ways. To add insult to injury many schools have gotten rid of art and music programs due to the lack of funds. Pretty soon it will be woodworking and home ec. These things just don't hold and value any more.

"Looks are deceiving" "Never judge a book by it's cover" "What you see is NOT always what you get"........... in other words- I got B's & C's too and big surprise.....nobody knows I'm a real genius! Ha! Ha! But that does not necessarily make me intelligent. Nor are those who get good grades more intelligent. However, in answer to your question people think based upon their own intelligence- and therefore judge others with their own hindered intelligence. Those who think they know actually know the least. That makes you above them....forget about em, they are ignorant!

It is a misconception because there is no way to guage intelligence very accurately. It isn't always true. Einstein was an average student and Bill Gates dropped out of college but you don't hear anyone questioning their intelligence. In the end, it is how you apply your own intelligence that really counts.

I have know idea! MOST geniuses don't get GOOD grades because they are in their own creative world. I think probably because if u get an A instead of a B then it means ur smarter since u so called know more! This doesn't make any sence cause the people who get the A's either have GREAT test taking skills or studied more! LOL! HOPE THAT HELPED! :) !!!!!!!!!!

When people get good grades, it is a quantitative measure and it is visable

If they have no other way of judging your intelligence, then that is the determining factor.

If you are intelligent and don't get good grades, then how intelligent can you be for not taking advantage of what you have.

Intelligence is partially measured by the ability to "learn" and "retain" knowledge. Those who get good grades exhibit such an ability to a greater degree than those who do not.

Does it mean they ARE smarter? Not necessarily. However, it is a good indicator.

Is it "smart" to "be smart" and not get "good grades," when so much of your earning potential in the future relies on those grades?

Because people who get good grades are good at mugging up stuff. It is not necessary that they understand the concept, but people don't give a damn about whether a person really gets the point. All the want is grades, grades n grades...

1. People who don't know how to study and prepare for tests can't imagine the skill, it looks like "magic" to them.

2. People who don't get good grades are invariably jealous and assume the person with good grades has more intelligence rather than better habits and a shrewd ability to pay attention.

3. Normal hunting-for-differences, power-tripping playground politics that come from our glorious simian ancestry...

that's not true. some people are intelligent but they are lazy. and some people who get good grades fail there High School Exit Exam (which is pretty easy) and yet they are probably valedictorians.

so that's stereotyping.

They may or may not be more intelligent but they probably do have more knowledge. Since, intelligence is the application of knowledge and they have a lot of knowledge they believe that they are more intelligent.
