I am a mix between an optimist and a realist. I am optimistic that things can change until otherwise proven wrong and than the realist kicks in.

I'm a cautious pragmatic realist. It's my nature. Sometimes I try to be more optimistic, but unless I can find some good reason to be optimistic it doesn't work.
