You pulled the axle from the full float rear. It has to be clean and dry to use silicone or you can go to your local parts store and get new gaskets. Your going to have to remove the differential cover and the axle keepers to pull the axle out and replace the gaskets.
Then you will also need the rear cover gasket too. Its not brake fluid but multi weight gear oil. If it has a posi traction rear make sure you add the additive or a quart of Lucas gear oil or you will have clutch chatter which will destroy the rear.

if you pulled the 8 bolts holding the shaft you dont need to be freaked just go get a vibration seal and replace
top the diff oil off with lucas and drive it like a truck
the shaft is able to be floated just dont bang it around in housing seals get torn
you have a dana 60 rear end and from my knowlege ive done a couple dozen brake jobs on that rear end and yet to pull a cover only shafts in order to remove hubs

i own a repair shop, and you pulled the axle from it,,it has a full float rear end in it,and you let the rear end grease drain from it,ow you,ll have to drain it all out and remove the cover from the rear end and remove the keeper bolt and then remove the axles ,and put new seals in it to make sure it don't leak and the front cover with the bolts you removed will have to clean and dry for it to seal off again,in other words you goofed a little, but its fixable, just take your time, you may want to get a good repair manual on this one ,your going to need it i think, good luck i hope this help,s.

don't remove rear cover 3/4 & 1 tons dont have clips. just park on a slight hill or jack up the leaking side a couple of inches remove the axle , clean and dry axle and hub , now your sealer will stick, replace and move to level ground to fill rear end.

Rasco is right. I can't believe a 36 year certified mechanic has never pulled a full floating axle. Full floating: Remove the bolts at the outside end, pull the axle out.

Use brakleen to clean the oil off the surfaces, then silicone it, I prefer using gaskets but the silicone will work. Then just add more oil to the differential
