As President, Kennedy (make sure you're spelling it right) inherited Vietnam from his predecessor. We got pulled into that 'conflict' in the 1950s by our allegiance to the French, who promptly baled and left us hanging there alone.

As a soldier, he manned a PT boat in World War II.
