I ask, because I see more and more men grouping with and defending men, and women grouping with and defending women in heated topics, (inlcuding on this forum). Perhaps I'm misguided, but I partly blaim feminists for constantly teaching girls of wrongs by men but NOT emphasizing enough that not all men are the same. Boys seem to resent being treated like rapests, chauvanists, women beaters, etc... before they ever do anything wrong. Of course, this causes strive between boys and girls. What do you think?

I think we are different and should be different and treated different. Now, some feminist may not like this but, I believe in a woman being a woman. We give life and we deserve respect when we are respectful. I want men to treat me with respect and not like another guy. Sorry. But, I think the concept on which feminism was born was to get equality for women in the workplace and in politics and other positions which affect the world we live in. Equality in the workplace, benefits, pay and all the rest. It just got out of hand, like most things do. So, The reason men and women side with each other is mostly because we usually feel the same about things. But , not always. We are individuals as well as men and women. I love men and if they show respect to me I show respect to them as well. If they are rude and I don't want to hear it, I have a mouth and in this country I can ask him to please be nice and act like a gentleman.

Feminism has both strengthened and hindered relations between men and women. By fostering equality between the sexes, it has helped the relationship. By emphasizing the abuses of some men, making a gender war about it, and denying that there are any differences between men and women, they have harmed the relationship.

I'm sorry your education in feminism was so one sided. Not all guys are horrible people, just like not all of them are nice people. There's going to be a split somewhere in any group- wether it be male, female, or mixed. I think feminism has made gender relations more complicated because not everyone operates on the same rules anymore. The central message in feminism - as it was taught to me- is that women deserve to be treated like equals. It sounds overly simple and like something that's been accomplished, but it hasn't yet. Sometimes it's in the little things too. I'm an athletic, slim, female and last month a guy who's 5 inches taller and 20 lbs lighter told me that he could take me in a fight. I could snap him in two within 5 seconds, but he underestimates me because I'm female. Ninety something percent of the time this guy treats women equally and is nice, but that's not all the time.

im an unofficial femminist, and i have never once accused any man of any of the crimes u mentioned. i just think women should be treated as equals and not as inconsiquential matter that men tread upon. thats all. give respect and u shall recieve. i full-heartedly believe that we ARE equal and men (women too!) who say otherwise will get a very heated response from me. fathers need to teach their sons to respect their mothers and girl relations. this is coming from a babysitter of 3 boys. the idea that women are lower than men is learned at a very early age. i just think it should be stopped.

I believe that while it has weakened relationships in the end when acceptance of equality does occur (will take generations) relationships will be much stronger than they have ever been.

Without feminism women would never have gained any of the rights and opportunities that you as a young woman take for granted.

I think it has strengthened the relationship. You see, with woman becoming more and more equal to man (never to be 100% because we are naturally so different) there is more information sharing and we are using the woman role a lot better in society. Women are naturally more attuned to certain things and I think we are better communicators. The countries that women share roles and arnt suppressed are rocking on in to the new milinium!
So- I think that men are more at ease knowing that women are equal players in relationships and we can reach together for common goals.
