We have:

4m + (-3n) + n.

1. Combine like terms.

What is -3n + n? The answer is -2n.

2. Add 4m to -2n.

We get:

4m - 2n

3. Factor out 2. Take out 2 and divide each term inside the parentheses by 2.

2(2m-n)

However, if you go back to the answer BEFORE factoring, which is 4m - 2n, you will clearly see that your coefficients are 4 and -2.

Remember: a coefficient is the number that "stands" next to a letter called variable.

Are you working in the book? And if you are then they might have selected answers in the back and then you could work off that OR does it state the varibles?
