You ask such a loaded question that its difficult to know where to begin answering it. First, I must say that the images coming out of Iraq are incredibly tame compared to those that came out of Vietnam, and even World War Two. A hangar full of flag-draped coffins is nothing compared to what the media could be showing.
One of the main reasons that Americans became opposed to Vietnam was the photojournalism that came out of it. Some famous examples include the naked girl running down the street with napalm on her back and the handcuffed rebel being shot in the head. If a nation (or in this case a shadowy and paranoid administration) chooses to go to war, it ought to face up to the horror it creates. I would say that, in this case, the media has been incredibly friendly to the Bush Administration and its bloody little pet project.

We should be focusing on reality. Reality means body counts, mangled bodies and flag covered caskets. Why wouldn't a Republican, like GW for instance, not want to see that? Maybe because it slams reality home into your brain where it should be and that's the last thing he wants you to think about when he's shoveling more crap to the American people about how we're winning this debacle. Don't look too close, you might be disturbed by all the killing and the maiming now, better not to think about what's really happening to your fellow Americans right? And Repubs try to portray Dems as cowardly, what a joke.

There are not too many images of war that are pretty.THAT IS NOT TO SAY THAT WAR IS UNNECESSARY:Quote: The chief reason warfare is still with us is neither a secret death-wish
of the human species, nor an irrepressible instinct of aggression, nor,
finally and more plausibly, the serious economic and social dangers inherent
in disarmament, but the simple fact that no substitute for this final arbiter
in international affairs has yet appeared on the political scene.
Author: Hannah Arendt 1906-1975, German-born American Political Philosopher
HOW ABOUT THIS THOUGHT ON WAR::::::::::Quote: War is not a life: it is a situation,
one which may neither be ignored nor accepted.
Author: T. S. Eliot 1888-1965, American-born British Poet, Critic
OR THIS ONE::::::Quote: I don't believe that the big men,
the politicians and the capitalists alone
are guilty of the war. Oh, no, the little man
is just as keen, otherwise the people of the
world would have risen in revolt long ago!
There is an urge and rage in people to destroy,
to kill, to murder, and until all mankind, without exception,
undergoes a great change, wars will be waged,
everything that has been built up, cultivated and grown,
will be destroyed and disfigured,
after which mankind will have to begin all over again.
Author: Anne Frank 1929-1945, German Jewish Refugee, Diarist
IT'S SAD TO SAY BUT TO PRESERVE FREEDOM, WAR IS SOMETIMES NECESSARY, AND HAS BECAME MORE SO IN THIS DAY & TIME.

As American citizens we should always be confronted with the human cost of war. It may be ugly and unsettling but we should never turn our backs on the raw experiences that our military endures everyday on our behalf. There may be "nicer, prettier, more positive things that we should be focusing on" but that would be dismissing reality.

Conservative Republicans control all news, that is fact. Look at who owns all news. Republicans like to pitch the war as a sanitary war. They know nothing of war. War is hell, pure hell and until you have picked up the guts of your best friend in war and stuffed them back in his belly you know nothing of war. Bush and Cheney are both draft Dodgers, they know nothing of war. Republicans love sending others off to fight and die and do the dirty work for them. While they will not serve. John Kerry knows war, C. Powel knows war. John McCain knows war and John Murtha knows war. We lost 58,000 in Nam and that nation building ended when are young people and our churches stopped that conflict. Iraq is in Civil war now. Just like Nam it is a no win war. In the end no matter what we do Iran will control that Country. One more American is too many.
AP story follows, BAGHDAD, Iraq - Two weeks before U.S. midterm elections, American officials unveiled a timeline Tuesday for Iraq's Shiite-led government to take specific steps to calm the world's most dangerous capital and said more U.S. troops might be needed to quell the bloodshed. U.S. officials previously said they were satisfied with troop levels and had expected to make significant reductions by year's end

The photos would not be scandalous if the "W"ar in Iraq was not scandalous by the mere fact that it is an illegal war.
Such an odious question you ask.

Should we not see the truth, the results of way; maybe then we will make them stop it. Otherwise we can just pretend that it is lots of fun and keep it up forever.
