The media.
When a 3rd party candidate announces their run, what is the media concerned with? The new ideas the candidate may have to bring peace, jobs, prosperity, low crime, energy independence and a clean environment to the people of the USA?
NOOOOO! Of course not.
It's which party that he is going to take votes from and be a "spoiler", because he has no chance of winning. That is what you hear from the beginning. And they never give the same coverage to all candidates, they always play favorites. If CBS 60 Minutes hadn't done that softball interview with Bubba and Hill, he would have never recovered enough from the mess they had made. He would never had won.
Independents never get a break because the media has too many "friends" on Capitol Hill. It's just not in their best interest to rock the boat. That media that 5th Estate is supposed to be on our side. LOL

think about it, an independant voice might unleash the truth about what is really going on. It could bring down the whole power structure. Repubs. and demos. are in kahoots. After all we were never ment to be a democracy. We were set up to be a republic, ran by the gentry class and nothing has changed. They the politicians, pretend so as to sedate the masses. The wealthy landowners is the definition of the gentry class initially. government doesnt need to borrow, who is getting the interest and why? It's a scam to create wealth for the people in charge

The main barrier to a 3rd party is the other two parties! They don't WANT competition!

MOST of the US population falls squarely in the political middle.....exactly where a good third party could help us all. The two old parties couldn't stand a viable third, because it would effectively end their strangle hold on things.

No one thinks they can win. I think a third political party candidate that people would vote for would keep the left from being so far left and the right from being so far right. It's a shame I probably won't see it in my life time. We've been ingrained to believe that only a Republican or Democrat can win. Given the options I gotta vote Republican. Where are the Whigs when you need em?

Money from special interest groups and PAC Fund money. Once a group of people own you your effectiveness for public service goes out the window... then no one wants to vote for you because you are as tainted in their minds as the republican or democrat candidates.

Usually money, as the people running from these fringe partys have no name recognition and get very little press.
