It doesn't take a true transgender to answer, just someone who is familiar with the concept that gender, sex, and sexuality are two different things. Gender is all the prescribed behaviors and mannerisms that we assign to each of the sexes. There is argument; some say that everything about gender is taught to us by society, others think it comes purely from being a man or a woman (i.e. its in your genes and hormones), and some think it is a mixture of the two. In any case, gender is seen as such: men are pigheaded and stubborn, women are emotional, women are better nurturers, men are honest, etc., etc.. If these sound a little fishy to you, that's right. Most of these "gender-linked" traits are actually individual, and we just have stereotypes. Very often everyday people feel the strain of having to answer to these stereotypes, and consequently go against gender norms- from this you get 'tomboys' and 'sissies' or merely people who you call, lovingly or with hatred, different. They don't want to be the other gender; they want to be themselves. Others do want to be the other gender- called 'transgenders'.
Sex is what's between your legs- specifically, the physical parts of you that make you a biological male or female (this includes hormones). Sex is viewed as being linked with gender, but it's not, necessarily- as shown above, some people don't want the presence of a penis or vagina to influence how they are expected to act. Perhaps if it were easier for someone to have the sex of one and the "wrong" gender at the same time, certain people would be able to get by, but as it is, if you want to change your gender, it is safer and more acceptable to do so by changing your sex as well, so that everything "matches". Transsexuals (note the word 'transsexual', not 'transgender', because this is about their sex) do this through surgery and hormones. Some people feel that they have a birth defect- being born in the wrong body, and therefore they have the surgeries to correct it. Either way, sex and gender are seen to go together although they don't necessarily, and gender as well as sex have a lot to do with how others view, perceive, and treat you (i.e. would you need a sex change if you were alone on a desert island?).
Finally, sexuality is Sex with a capital 'S'- the boom boom in the bedroom. Sexuality has NOTHING to do with sex or gender. Doesn't matter if you're a man, woman, transgender, transsexual, in-between, a nothing, an everything- that has no bearing on who you will be sexually attracted to. If you were born a man and love men, some might call you gay. However, you might have been born a man but want to be a woman, but still love men. Just because you desire to become a woman (or are a woman inside) doesn't change who you like. So there are male-to-female transsexual lesbians, female-to-male transsexual gays, and a whole slew of everything in between. Some might ask- doesn't that make them straight before? And yes, it does. Why in the world would someone want to become gay with all of the problems it can bring? Well, that's just it- they're not choosing to become gay. That's secondary. What they're choosing is their gender and/or sex! Just try to remember that these 3 categories are separate and it will become clear.
Hope that helped!

if one is a born male and in a females body, they're transgendered male to female and would desire men yes. they'd look at themselves as a heterosexual female.
a natural born female transgendered into a male, would not desire a man. he'd view himself as a heterosexual male and desire women.

no. gender and sexuality aren't linked at all. it has nothing to do with sexuality. if they were linked there would be no gays, lesbians or bi's.
