A rock band? The foundation is drums, electric bass, and electric guitar. To this you easily can add a second guitarist. Actually two guitarists, a lead guitarist and a rhythm guitarist, is almost essential. In addition, maybe a keyboardist and maybe a sax player.

Any instruments at all may be in a band, as long as there are more than one player - one person is 'solo', two are 'duet' three 'trio', four 'quartet', etc, a band should have four or five or more players, but there are no limits
