Well Hollywood, first and foremost is about business, and as with all businesses, it comes down to profit margins. The public goes in larger numbers to see violence, more than anything else, so it naturally follows that a business oriented enterprise will cater to the demands of its clients.

That is why alternative or independent film makers, who are not in anyway affiliated with the Hollywood studios are where you are seeing most of the films currently that have a lot of substance without the use of violence.

Yes.

G and PG movies gross more than R rated ones, so it's in their interests to make tamer flicks.

Hollywood wants to make movies that make money - that's there sole interest, really. So when audiences reliably turn out for zombie horror movies and not G-rated "The Straight Story", they figure people want the bloody stuff.

Also, most comedies and romantic comedies don't involve much violence.

It also depends on how you measure violence. Do you include, say, "Dawn of the Dead", "Munich", "Cinderella Man" and Harry Potter in your categorization of violent Hollywood movies? Because the MPAA says they all have it.

Sure there are lots of films without violence. Not action films, mind you. Those are based on violence. If you don't want to see violence see a chick flick. Those would probably be right up your alley. I'm not joking by the way, I know lots of guys who really like chick flicks. However, I'm a girl who likes action films, but only really good ones.

Try Family movies they can make movies without violence there were pictures like the black stallion and Heidi and I think if you would check where to contact the movie studios you could ask them which movies of today are made with out violence in them. Hopefully they can tell you

They are immensely capable of making films without violence; unfortunately, those seem to make more money.

If you want the violence in films to end, write to the film companies and TELL them.

Actually, there is a site called Petition On Line where you can probably find exactly that sort of petition. I know there is one for Paramount! This particular one is to ask them to stop forcing previews and commercials on us when we buy DVD's.

It is here:

I think Hollywood may have lost sight of their direction, but, fortunately there is an abundance of quality indy films that are quite enjoyable for the most part.
